AC Repair & Installation in Hampton Roads
Hampton Roads summers are long and humid. When your AC can’t keep up, we find out why and fix it right.
Air conditioning in Hampton Roads does two jobs: it cools the house and it pulls moisture out of the air. Our summers run from May into late September, nights often stay above 70 degrees, and humidity regularly sits in the 80s and 90s. That is a lot of hours for one system, and it is why AC problems here tend to show up as a sticky, clammy house before they show up as a warm one.
RedVine Mechanical repairs all major AC brands and installs Trane, Carrier, and Goodman systems. We offer same-day appointments for most diagnostic calls, and our emergency line is answered 24/7.
Signs Your AC Needs Repair
- The AC runs all day but the house won’t get below the high 70s
- Warm air coming from the vents
- The house feels damp or clammy even when it is cool
- Ice on the refrigerant lines or the indoor coil
- Water around the indoor unit or a tripped condensate switch
- The outdoor unit hums but the fan won’t spin
- Your power bill climbed much faster than the weather did
AC Repair
Some of the most common summer repairs are simple parts: a failed capacitor, a burned contactor, a clogged condensate drain, or a dirty coil that can no longer move heat. Others are bigger, like a refrigerant leak or a failing compressor. We test before we replace, and you get the price before we start.
If your system runs all night in September or on a 95-degree afternoon and still can't keep up, it may not be broken at all. Every AC has a limit to how far it can pull the indoor temperature below the outdoor temperature. We'll tell you whether you're looking at a repair, a maintenance issue, or a system that is simply undersized.
Humidity Is Part of the Job
An air conditioner removes moisture as it cools. When the system is oversized, low on refrigerant, or the fan is set to run constantly, it can cool the house without drying it, and you end up with a cool, damp home that feels worse than the thermostat says.
On repair and maintenance visits we look at the things that affect humidity too: fan settings, airflow, coil condition, and refrigerant charge. Sometimes the fix is as simple as switching the thermostat fan from On to Auto.
AC Replacement & New Installation
When an older system needs a compressor or keeps breaking down, replacement is usually the better value. We size the new system to your home, check the ductwork it will connect to, and give you good, better, and budget options instead of one high quote.
Every new full system installation comes with our two-year labor warranty, on top of the manufacturer's equipment warranty.
- Central AC replacement and new installation
- Heat pump systems that cool and heat
- Ductless mini-splits for rooms without ductwork
- Energy efficiency upgrades and duct sealing

AC Repair & Installation: Frequently Asked Questions
How fast can you come out for an AC repair?
Most diagnostic calls are seen the same day or the next morning, depending on where you are and how busy the season is. For a true emergency, our line is answered 24/7 at (757) 239-0081.
Why is my AC running but not cooling?
Common causes are a dirty filter or coil, a failed capacitor or contactor, low refrigerant from a leak, or a frozen indoor coil. On very hot days the system may also be at its limit. If it runs for hours without the temperature dropping, turn it off and call us.
Why does my house feel humid even with the AC on?
The system may be oversized, low on refrigerant, or the thermostat fan may be set to On instead of Auto, which puts moisture back into the air. We check all of these on a service call.
What AC brands do you install?
